WASH YOUR HANDS BEFORE EACH
ANIMAL IS SAMPLED. In order to avoid food contamination on the brush please withhold food for half an hour before sampling. |
|
1.
Remove a brush from the plastic pouch. |
|
2.
Twirl the brush on the cheek a few times (not the gums above the
teeth). DO NOT LEAVE THE SWAB IN THE MOUTH FOR MORE THAN A COUPLE OF SECONDS. This is plenty of time to obtain a good DNA sample. NOTE: If you leave the swab in the mouth too long you increase the chance of potential contamination of the sample with food particles or bacteria. This could inhibit the DNA reaction for analysis. |
|
3. *IMPORTANT* Let the brush air dry for three minutes. You can place it in a cup with the swab end facing up. Make sure that the tip of the swab does not touch any other surfaces. |
|
4.
Place the brush in an envelope provided. Fill in information on
the envelope. |
|
5.
Repeat the sampling process two more times with the other swabs
provided for the same animal. |
